Pantry 279

With the continued increased need, and the donations being down, we are majorly in need of FOOD. Thank you to Ellettsville Christian Church for the wonderful donation to purchase food! It has been ordered, but will be a couple of weeks until it arrives. In the mean time, ANY canned food or non perishable food would be amazing! Canned veggies and fruit, cereals, Peanut butter, soups, side dished, ramen, seriously anything is great!! We are physically there to take donations Sat 10-5, Mon, Tues, and Wed 10 - 6. We also have a large wooden drop box outside of our door in back with a swing door on the side. If you can't make it out and would prefer to make a cash donation, those can be made via Paypal ( pantry279@yahoo.com ), VENMO ( @pantry279 ) on our webpage www.pantry279.org or via snail mail Pantry 279 P.O. Box 312, Ellettsville, IN 47429. Thank you everyone!!! Please SHARE ... See MoreSee Less

Pantry 279

Covid and the economy claimed another victim today, but they went out still serving the community. It's always sad to see another restaurant closing due to these hard times, doubly so when it is a family owned/ran business, plus one that is so incredibly tasty! Mike and Brooke made sure nothing went to waste though by donating ALL of the food and ingredients used to make their delicious creations to us today. It took 2 trips with our new van completely loaded down to get it all. Guests of the Pantry will be receiving this amazing bounty today and tomorrow. PLEASE , PLEASE give them some love during this difficult time. Thank you Mike and Brooke, family and staff for serving this community so well! ... See MoreSee Less

Thank you for thinking of others during this difficult time of having to close your own business!

Thank you Mike and Brooke! May God bless your new endeavors and make them prosper.

So sad. I hate to hear they are closed. Nice of them to donate to the pantry

Thinking and giving to those in need shows the true quality of ownership. So sorry to see you close your doors!

That is amazing! I hated to see this place close but so happy they donated!

Pantry 279

Saturday did NOT start as we had expected. It was one of those days where you tell you child to give Mommy a moment, cry for 10 min, and then regroup and head out. We came into soaked carpet in the room we use for an office/storage for diapers and food/breakroom and then promptly had a pallet of milk fall off the lift gate all over the parking lot. We knew it was going to be busy since we have been closed with weather and so many had been calling saying they had no food. This was not a time for extra things that needed dealt with RIGHT NOW. I am so very thankful to the extra volunteers who showed up to help, Nature's Link for sending their adult son and his friend ( they plowed some new spots for us and stayed all day to help ), the extra delivery drivers to pull off the 80+ deliveries, those wonderful people who sent amazing hot food for us to eat on the fly AND all the hot coco and coffee, and the regular crew for caffeinating up, digging in, and still making everything work with smiles. 233 families came thru for food, which was 763 individuals fed! We lost some diapers, a little bit of printer paper and a few boxes, but everything else was saved. Only a little milk was lost as well. I wish we could have cameras where people could watch all the time. Saturday was a true work hard, success show. I can't express enough thanks to all who came and helped make this possible. The reward was a couple of phone calls I received afterward where families were thanking us for the food they had received and saying how badly it was needed, a couple in tears.. Everyone yesterday deserves a good day of rest today! ... See MoreSee Less

Pantry 279

Good News! We WILL be OPEN on SATURDAY 2/20/21 !! AND thanks to Hoosier Hills Food Bank and Midwest Food Bank, we have many wonderful things! At first I was worried we wouldn't have much, but food is food, but nope! these 2 stepped in and we will have lots! We will be open 2-5. YES it's going to be busy! Please do NOT stop in the highway but curve the line around IN FRONT of the monument place and thru the parking lot of the bank.
For those asking What do we need? We need salt/ice melt! Food wise soups, crackers, hearty sides ( like rice, spagettios, chili ). It's going to be COLD, we would LOVE hot drinks for the volunteers, who will be there starting at 10am. Finally, we will need a few volunteers. WE WILL BE BUSY AND WE WILL HAVE A TRUCK TO UNLOAD IN THE MORNING STARTING AT 10.. Thank you and Please SHARE! See you Sat!

Meet Tammy and James! Many of you know James as the fun, joking guy who puts food in the car and smiles on your face. Tammy, his wife, prefers to stay behind the scenes are runs the freezers and back area for the Pantry. They show up everyday, usually earlier than anyone and work ALL day. To say both work their behinds off is an understatement. Tammy is extremely focused and digs her heels in and just makes sure the work gets done, no matter how much pain she is in, which is probably a lot with serious back injuries and a heart condition. Sometimes people say she comes off as stern, but she is just getting stuff done quickly and efficiently, but no one can question her strong desire to make sure the community has good, healthy food and meat. James loves to joke with everyone. It makes him the most happy when he knows he has cheered someone up. Opposite sides of the same super shiny coin! On a normal, non-weather week, these 2 put in upwards of 40-50 hours of work, all volunteer!
Today, they took the truck to Indy to get some great food for Sat. distribution, like Breakfast burritos and cookie dough! Thurs they will come in again to unload the truck, we HOPE people show up to help with this so it doesn't take too long. Friday, James will take the truck to HHFB to get bread/bakery, and other yummy things for Sat. They have helped me turn this Sat, which was looking like a day we barely had anything to scrape together, into a great date filled with many yummy items! Next time you see them out or at Pantry, please be sure to let them know how greatly appreciated and valued they are.
